An evening stroll by the lagoon

Retrospection by the lagoon
When I first started this blog, I wanted to chronicle my expat adventures in Singapore. As time went by, this space slowly transformed into a personal memoir, where I could write anything and everything. From  travel to food to musings, this virtual space provided a creative outlet.

Today, this blog is a diary which stores all my memories. Through it, I have been fortunate enough to have experiences which I possibly wouldn't have had otherwise. In all probability, I wouldn't have ventured out with my camera in the hopes of stumbling upon something that I could blog about later. Even when I walk my dogs on the east coast, I sometimes carry my point and shoot camera so I can take pictures along the way. This post is a result of that :)

Just last week, I took my dogs for an evening stroll to the lagoon. I love coming to this side of the east coast parkway. The placid lagoon resonates tranquility and walking around it makes me feel at peace with myself.

Sunset by the lagoon
The ideal time to visit the lagoon is in the evenings just as the sun is about to set. When the golden rays fall on the water, tiny droplets glisten and shimmer like diamonds. Its a surreal sight to behold. I  try to come here at least once a week after work just to unwind and relax. I sit by the lagoon and watch the setting sun in the distance as the golden reflections play with my mind.

Floral Carpet
photo SAM_0009_zps4yubwhgp.jpg With spring around the corner, the trees on either side of the lagoon have been flowering in abundance. Flowers of every possible color have covered the green expanse resulting in a natural albeit colorful carpet! Its fascinating!

After admiring the natural flower carpet, I sat at the water bank with my dogs. Slowly yet steadily, dusk seemed to make its way towards us. This was our cue to leave and go to towards the beach. A I walked the dogs, I encountered curious stares! My husky in particular tends to get a lot of stares as she struts proudly (sometimes, I swear she thinks she is a horse)! She usually gets two kinds of reactions. Firstly, people look at her in admiration and those brave enough gather the courage to give her a pat. Secondly, people just jump to the side with fear in their eyes. Though I understand, that watching a husky can be intimidating, however, she is such a friendly fur ball! Over time, I have learnt to ignore the glances and just enjoy the walk .

After walking for a couple of minutes, the lagoon disappeared making way for the ocean. Being a coastal nation that brings in a lot of revenue through shipping, it should come as no surprise that ships are aplenty here! The horizon is usually dotted by vessels of every possible category. Tankers, offshore support vessels, cruise liners and bulk carriers literally cover the horizon. If you are wondering as to how I know so much about vessels, its because I work in the maritime industry :)

Ships or no ships, feeling the cool ocean breeze on my face is a good reason for me to come here often. On the weekdays especially, this stretch is virtually empty except for the evening joggers and an odd fisherman trying his luck at the jetty .

The east coast beach is very popular with the photographers and is constantly rated as one of the best places in Singapore for an outdoor photoshoot. While I was coaxing my dogs to enter the water for a quick swim, I saw a photographer perched on the jetty trying to get some shots . This part of the east coast is a photographer's paradise!

As it was getting dark, we headed back and crossed the lagoon one more time. Its amazing, how the view becomes more beautiful every time I visit.

This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places in Singapore. What is your favorite place?

Have a great week everyone! :)
