A few weeks back, we were shopping at Funan Mall for some electronics when the hunger pangs struck. After looking around for a while, we accidentally chanced upon a Thai restaurant . Ah Roy Thai, located on the 4th floor of Funan, serves authentic Thai cuisine that is flavorsome and aromatic. As many of you would know, I absolutely devour  Thai food with relish, hence discovering another great restaurant in Singapore resulted in a mini happy dance of sorts :)

Upon entering the restaurant, we were met by friendly servers who were noticeably Thai . They greeted us with a swadeeka and showed us to our table. These girls couldn't speak much English but smiled throughout and exuded warmth and hospitality. After glancing at the menu, we quickly decided to order our favorite dishes. Thai green curry (chicken), prawn cakes and Pad Thai. To wash down our spicy food, we also ordered fresh Thai ice tea and tender coconut.

Ah Roy Thai

Our table had these colorful dishes that were intricately carved and gave an antique feel. These contained chips that one could munch on while waiting for the food to arrive. More than the chips, I was intrigued by the dish. It had little green stones that were set among the swirling designs. The bottom part had translucent stones that sparkled as the sun rays filtered through the windows and fell upon it.

Chips to munch on

After admiring the dish, I brought my attention to the chips inside. We were famished so we munched on some. I like the concept of having a quick snack on the table while the patrons wait for the food to be prepared. Many Indian restaurants in Singapore follow this principle and have papads (known as poppadums' here) and mint chutney to snack on.

Me :)
It was a beautiful summer's day and our corner table was getting some warm sunshine. The interiors had purple and pastel hues that looked vibrant under the sun. I am glad I managed to get some vitamin D while posing for my vain pictures :)

Cooling Thai Ice Tea
The Thai ice tea was the first to arrive at our table along with coconut water. The  tea is very cooling and perfectly compliments the hot spices. Its made with milk, water and crushed ice and is a good alternative to the usual ice ice tea in a can.

Thai Green Curry (Chicken)

My all time favorite dish was the next to arrive. The Thai green chicken curry is made with flavored spices, vegetables, coconut milk and basil leaves and exudes a heavenly aroma. This dish goes perfectly well with steamed rice and every bite is delectable deliciousness. My first tryst with Thai curry was in Goa, India at a beach shack. My reaction to the first bite was similar to that of Remy in the movie ratatouille. I still remember experiencing a burst of flavors which resulted in me wiping the plate clean. Ever since then, Thai has become one of my favorite cuisines and I always order this particular dish.

The curry was piping hot when it arrived and it tasted divine. After eating at Ah Roy Thai, I am proud to exclaim that this has the best Thai curry in Singapore. The taste is scintillating, the spices are perfect, the flavors are distinctive and the whole presentation is impressive. I have sampled Thai curry in many restuarants but this was by far the best I have had!

Golden brown prawn cakes

The delectable prawan cakes were the next to arrive and were an instant hit. They had a rich golden brown tinge and had were fresh off the pan. I instantly took a bite and the prawn cake just melted in my mouth. Again, this was served hot and tasted heavenly! The best prawn cakes in Singapore? Yes! Yes! Yes! They made me salivate by just looking at them!

Tom Kha Gai

We had ordered a large portion of the Tom Kha Gai which came in a very generous portion. This would possibily be enough for 03-04 people. Made with coconut milk, this soup was delicious and appetizing. Infact, all the dishes we tried here surpassed my expectations completely! previously, we have relied heavily on internet reviews but after trying a gazilion restaurants, I am glad I chanced upon this one.!This is definitely a hidden gem and is my pick for the best Thai restaurant in Singapore. The food is fresh and hot, the prices are reasonable, the service is friendly and the they do it with a smile :)

Ah Roy Thai

I would definitely be returning soon! :)
