During our trip to Doha, we decided to take a weekend detour to Dubai. Located just one hour away by flight, it made sense to see another part of the middle east. So, on Friday evening, we made our way to the land of luxury, malls, fast cars and zero taxes.

Since, we were there for only two days, we decided to see some of the main attractions. Burj Khalifa, Madinat Jumeirah and Dubai mall were on our mind and on the first day we headed over to see the tallest structure in the world, AKA, the towering Burj Khalifa.

With 164 floors, the Burj Khalifa is officially the tallest building in the world. Tourists can go to the observation deck which is located on the 124th floor . Whisked away in high speed elevators, the journey to the observation deck takes just over a minute! Whoosh!

The view
The observation deck, right named as 'at the top' offers panoramic views of the Dubai and the ocean beyond. Skyscrapers are evident as they stand tall over the landscape. The blue color of the ocean and the sky merge together to create one giant canvas.

The entire deck can be covered in a few minutes. There are different view points that overlook the city. On a clear day, one can see the Burj Al Arab in a distance.

After the deck tour, we came down 124 floors and landed back to earth. While the view from the top is scenic, there isn't much to see apart from Skyscrapers, buildings and the hotels surrounding the Burj Khalifa.

During the evening, the musical fountains gather large crowds. The fountains are orchestrated and choreographed to move as per the beats of the music. It is a good experience to sit at the surrounding cafes  and watch the fountains dance to a rhythm .

If you like architecture, luxury and big shopping malls then head to Dubai. If you are into history and culture, then other places in the middle east will suffice. Since I prefer museums to  skyscrapers , Dubai probably isn't the perfect destination for me but if you like fast cars, malls and super luxury then Dubai will not disappoint! Enjoy :)
