Hello Everyone! I hope you are enjoying a relaxing weekend. While many of you are in the midst of winters , we on the other hand live in the tropics and are experiencing the monsoons. Over the past few days, the incessant rain has resulted in a more vibrant landscape. The trees look more green, the flowers are in full bloom and the fragrance of the wet earth is intoxicating.. in a good way.

Oh, and here is me being vain . I am not really sure why I did that! Probably I am just trying to embrace life or give a free hug to my maker . :)

So, to enjoy the cooler climate, we decided to head out yesterday and enjoy an aromatic coffee in the rain. While, I was searching for new cafes online, hubs suddenly came in to the room. 'I have a surprise for you", he said. "Get ready, we are going out ". "Where are we going?", I asked. "Somewhere nice", he said with a smile and left the room". Under the impression that we would be going somewhere fancy, I ended up wearing a dress and soon we were on the way.
After driving for a while, the surrounding landscape begin to change. Lush greenery and thick dense forest greeted us and that's when I realized, we were at Labrador Nature Reserve! Hubs knows that I love places that are close to nature, hence this was indeed a beautiful surprise :)
After parking our car, we started walking up the road. On either side, nature seemed to welcome me with open arms. The rain had drenched the trees and I could feel droplets of water gently falling to the ground as the branches swayed in the wind. With hardly anyone around, the reserve was an epitome of tranquility.
Labrador nature reserve trail |
Located in the southern part of Singapore, Labrador nature reserve is home to an indigenous eco system and varied varieties of flora and fauna. As we walked upwards, we came across this trail. Easily accessible, one can follow the trail to experience tropical plants, exotic species of birds and a breathtaking view of the ocean.
Me :) |
Yes, I know what you are thinking. Why on earth would anyone wear a dress in a nature reserve? The answer to that is in the second paragraph of this post. Well, at least it looks good in the pictures :p
D's main intention was to take me to a café located on the fringes of the reserve called Eco Gourmet. Unfortunately, they were closed for a private event . Unperturbed, we decided to at least explore the reserve since we were already here.
While walking around, I came across these tropical plants with colorful red flowers. The leaves looked bright and literally had a subtle glow . The flowers added color to the green frame with little specks of vivid red .
A tropical bloom |
Pardon my lack of plant knowledge as I don't know what these flowers are called, but they look exquisite! If you know the name , do let me know in the comments.
Labrador Nature Reserve Viewpoint |
After walking for a few minutes, we came across this viewpoint. Located on the hilltop and surrounded by lush greenery, the viewpoint offers a scenic glimpse of the vast ocean.
The view of the ocean |
The panoramic view of the ocean and the horizon was mesmerizing to say the least. If this is how it looked on a cloudy day, I am sure on a clear day, it would be breathtaking. The blue sky would merge with the sea, dotted only by the marine vessels sailing calmly on the surface.
Some of the trees in the reserve and quiet old and speak of historic times . The gnarled branches of this particular tree had grown in every direction to give birth to new life. As the skylight filtered through the leaves, the tree stood out in all its splendor.

I saw this heart shaped leaf dotted with raindrops. Have you ever wondered how nature makes everything so perfect and so beautiful? Indeed, nature is the most beautiful artist!
We really enjoyed our tryst with nature and even though the café was closed, I am glad that we had the opportunity to experience the serenity of this reserve. I will definitely return and this time, with proper clothes :)
Enjoy your weekend!
